Two antique chandeliers from the hall of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) have reportedly gone missing, raising concerns about the security and preservation of heritage assets owned by the civic body.
MMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar confirmed that she has directed the Accounts and Tax Officer (ATO) along with other municipal staff to conduct an inquiry into the disappearance of the chandeliers. The inquiry is expected to ascertain when the items went missing and identify any lapses in record-keeping or security.
Despite the reported loss of the antique fixtures, no police complaint has been lodged so far. The absence of a formal complaint has sparked questions about the handling of the matter and the steps being taken to trace the missing heritage items.
The chandeliers, considered part of the council's historical property, are believed to have adorned the municipal hall for several years. Their disappearance has prompted concerns among citizens about the safeguarding of valuable artifacts and municipal assets.
