Goa's AI-based traffic signal system will not be introduced from July 1 as planned, with the rollout now postponed to July 15, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho announced on Monday.

The minister said the decision was taken to allow more time for public awareness about the new AI-powered traffic management system. He added that a key meeting on transport-related issues is scheduled for July 6, after which the government will take a final decision on implementing the project.

Godinho also said Goa has recorded a decline in road accidents following improvements at identified accident black spots and stricter road safety measures. The ongoing road safety awareness campaign will continue until July 15, after which the government will decide on installing CCTV cameras at major junctions.

On the proposed Digital Taxi Policy, the minister said the government has deferred taking a decision as elections are approaching. He noted that the policy does not yet enjoy broad consensus among stakeholders and said it would be revisited after the elections.
