Goa State Council for Research and Training (GSCRT) Director Meghana Shetgaonkar on Monday said the council will review all newly prepared school textbooks through an expert committee, while assuring that any errors identified will be corrected in future editions.
Shetgaonkar said 41 textbooks were prepared last year, describing it as only the beginning of GSCRT's work. She added that once all the textbooks are completed, they will be placed before a review committee for a comprehensive assessment.
She stressed that the council's primary focus is on the academic interests of students, rather than debates over whether the textbooks reflect a Goan or Maharashtrian perspective.
Appealing to parents not to rush to conclusions, Shetgaonkar urged them to read the textbooks carefully and examine their contents before forming an opinion.
Responding to criticism over grammatical errors in the Konkani textbook, the GSCRT Director acknowledged that mistakes do exist. She said that after the review committee is constituted, the textbooks will undergo a detailed review and the grammatical errors will be rectified in future editions.
However, she clarified that the textbooks currently in circulation will not be withdrawn, and the necessary corrections will instead be incorporated in subsequent editions following the review process.
